1991 sees the end of the Cold War, and we bring the Nando’s warmth to Perth with our first Australian restaurant; it’s still there today.
We open our first Nando’s in the United Kingdom a year later, on Ealing Common –
the same year singer Paul Simon becomes the first major artist to tour South Africa.
Also on home ground, we launch our first media campaign. It’s so controversial, it’s banned by the national broadcaster. (We still like ruffling feathers!)
In 1993, Nelson Mandela and F.W. de Klerk are jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo
– and we fire up our grills in
Botswana and Zimbabwe.
