1987 – 1990
1987 it’s the era of the mix tape, the Rubik’s Cube, Juluka’s “Scatterlings of Africa”, and the birth of the internet.
It’s also the year two friends, Robbie Brozin and Fernando Duarte, buy Chickenland and convert it into the first Nando’s restaurant in Rosettenville.
Not long after that, we hatch restaurants in Savoy, Germiston and Portugal. And so Nando’s goes from one to four!
In 1990, Nelson Mandela is released from prison after 27 years.
